The tournament continues! After a wild first weekend Matt and Hank are back to talk about what we feel is the best tournament weekend ever. Plus how do we see things playing out from here.

Then we head to Minneapolis to check in with Surly Brewing. Great brewery and a cool partnership they have with the Minnesota United soccer team.  

We'll also discuss some headlines from the NBA including the Cleveland Cavaliers chances at making the finals. 

Then we wrap up with a discussion about money in college sports. What should be done for programs with smaller athletic budgets, and are athletic programs benefiting schools with budget shortfalls overall.

Big show this week as we start off the month of March. Matt and Hank are back and spend some time at the top of the show discussing various topics. 

We'll talk about potential rule changes for the NFL including the catch rule. Also our thoughts on experimental changes for the NIT this season in college basketball. And do we like instant replay in sports? 

Then at 29:00 a big interview with L.C. May of Clyde May's whiskey. We talk about the state whiskey of Alabama, the history of the brand, and their own distillery over the next couple of years. 

After that we'll wrap it up talking March Madness. Our thoughts on the Big 10 in NYC plus what we're watching heading into Championship week.

Matt and Hank are back to start off the week talking about the NCAA men's tournament. The committee released their top 16 seeds for the first time and we give our thoughts. Who we think deserves the ranking and where teams go from here. 

After that we talk about the big trades by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the past week. Does this make them the favorites in the east now? 

And baseball is right around the corner! We'll look at some over/under win totals in MLB and talk college as well.

Matt and Hank are back together this week for Episode 71. We'll start by giving our take on the Super Bowl and where both teams are going forward for next year. 

Then at 21:30 it's on to the Carnival Vista where Matt visits with brewmaster Ronald Zeiber talking about the first brewery at sea. Great stuff there. 

After that we'll talk some about the Olympics which start this week. Plus a couple ideas for your Valentine's Day cocktails from Smirnoff. Then it's on to our Jump Ball segment where we discuss the Cavs, Patriots, and Olympics.

Recipes mentioned on the show: 

Hibiscus Crush – Courtesy of Sylvia Fountaine of Feasting at Home
  • 16 ounces Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka (2 cups) 
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers
  • 1 cups water 
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 32 ounces lemon lime soda 
  • 1 lemon- sliced 
  • 1 lime-sliced
  • 1 orange- sliced
  • 4 cups crushed ice
Place hibiscus, water and sugar in a small pot to simmer over the stove for 5 minutes.  Once sugar is dissolved, set aside to cool. Strain. Place vodka, triple sec, soda and sliced citrus in a punch bowl or beverage container. Add hibiscus infusion. Stir. Right before quests arrive add 4 cups crushed ice

  • 4 ounces Smirnoff Raspberry
  • 1.5 ounces Chartreuse
  • 6 fresh raspberries
Place all ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into two vintage martini glasses. Garnish with fresh raspberries. You could sugar the rim for extra sweetness.

Big weekend of college football on the way! Matt and Hank start off by breaking down the playoff rankings and scenarios. How do we see it sorting out? 

Then at 20:00 we talk some NFL headlines, including Eli in New York and the NFC South's playoff chances. 

At 29:00 we highlight some holiday cocktails from Smirnoff to get you ready for the season! See the recipes below. 

Then we'll touch on the Tennessee coaching search at 33:00 and make our championship game picks at 39:00!

Smirnoff Recipes: 

Cardamom Pear Punch ( 12- 16 drinks) 
·         3 cups Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka
·         6 cups pear juice ( from a jar) 
·         1-2 teaspoons orange bitters
·         2 red pears, sliced thinly horizontally 
Cardamom Ginger Syrup
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup water
10 cardamon pods crushed ( or sub 1 teaspoon ground cardamon) 
1/8 cup sliced ginger root, peels ok
1 tablespoon vanilla 
Make the Syrup. Place honey, water,  cardamon, ginger and vanilla in a small pot and simmer gently for 5 minutes. Turn the heat off and let this steep one hour, or overnight for the best flavor. 
In a medium punch bowl or beverage dispenser, pour in the Smirnoff Vodka, pear juice, bitters and sliced pears. Stir in the Cardamon ginger syrup.
Refrigerate until ready to serve, and serve over ice. 
This can be made a day ahead or the night before the party and refrigerated, allowing the flavors to meld.  
Winter Whisperer
·         1.5 oz Smirnoff Peppermint Twist
·         .75 oz pomegranate syrup
·         .75 oz fresh lemon juice
·         8 mint leaves
·         2 oz Club Soda

  • 4 ounces Smirnoff Peppermint Twist Vodka
  • 2 ounce crème de cacao
  • 1 ounce chocolate liquor
  • 2 ounce cream chocolate sauce & crushed peppermint for garnish
Holiday Bliss
·         1 oz Smirnoff Peppermint Twist
·         .5 oz Don Julio Añejo Tequila
·         3 oz Rich Chocolate Milk
